20-KW 2-71 Detroit Diesel Generator

The 20-kW 2-71 Detroit Diesel generator is the heaviest small diesel generator available.  Originally designed to run 40,000 hours before requiring a top-end overhaul, these units combine the 2-71 Detroit diesel engine with an extremely heavy duty, all copper wound Delco brushless alternator.  This ideal combination of Delco generator and 2-71 engine was used to power refrigeration units on railroad cars, an unattended operation requiring the utmost reliability.

One reason the 2-71 engine has such great longevity is its speed of 1200 rpm, lower than that of any comparable generator built today.  It is easy and inexpensive to work on and rebuild.  Other important advantages of the 2-71 Detroit Diesel generator are: 

• built-in shutoff system in case of overheating, low oil pressure, etc.

• extremely heavy duty construction

• power sufficient to operate air compressors, welders, air conditioners, and other equipment

• simple design, reliability, and parts availability worldwide

Just prior to shipping, all units are started and checks made of voltage and oil pressure.  They are guaranteed to run and produce power immediately.

These generators are fresh running takeouts from refrigerated rail cars. Our 20KW units come with a bonus - a special heavy duty plug (pictured) that can be used as a disconnect. These plugs cost over $200 when purchased new. Our 20KW units also are equipped with an auxiliary 12 volt alternator for battery charging. These options, along with an Operator's Manual, are included at no charge.
